Barbara Kuhl opened a store with family members in her hometown of Woodstock, Illinois in 2002 and in 2006 she launched her own store in Pecatonica, Illinois which was closer to her rural home and closer to her daughters', Madeline & Olivia's school.

Barbara's goal is to offer her customers unique gifts not found at 'big box' stores but also very importantly at reasonable prices. She has many times been told "you could mark that much higher!" Barbara only buys what she likes herself and is pleased when a customer is tickled by a humorous item, laughs at a greeting card or finds a meaningful gift for a friend. She discovers HomeElement's merchandise from many vendors by attending Gift Shows, scouring trade magazines and websites, but some of the best ideas comes from her customers!
